What do I do in my spare time?
Sports:
I support West Ham United football club. OK – it’s pretty hard from the US, but I do my best to keep up with games and results. I’d like to say I still play football regularly, but I haven’t found the outlet (or I’m just too lazy!!). Anyone who has a kickabout game in Boston Metro-West please contact me.
Otherwise, I like watching local team the New England Patriots. (In the US it’s called football, but really it’s a form of handball!).
Music:
I was a concert pianist 20 years ago, and subsequently have played all kinds of music from jazz to folk to pop to rock to Gospel, all over Europe, the US and Israel. I still like doing the odd gig – especially with my wife, who’s an amazing singer, originally based in Los Angeles. Recently we went with a band to Peru, which was a lot of fun.
Politics and Economics:
I’m very interested in developing the Majority World and the Inner City. In particular I’m interested in micro-finance, micro-enterprise and other potential models that have self-sustaining growth. I like organizations such as CCT (http://www.cct.org.ph/) which has six divisions including micro-enterprise, hospitals, a costco-type operation and a charity for street people. At the same time it has provided health insurance, pensions and savings for the disenfranchised as a profitable business.
Teaching and Speaking:
I tutor students SAT and SSAT/ISEE. I enjoy seeing students with difficulties improve dramatically. I also teach Kaplan tutors how to tutor.
I enjoy speaking and lecturing in multiple venues. For my last engagement I was asked to speak in a large venue (end Jan 2009) on the Israel/Gaza situation.
Photography:
I enjoy taking photographs of all the incredible sights I see.
